This is one of my personal favorites. Done on flagstone at a pivotal point in my life when I was still transitioning from a special operations perspective to a civilian life, this painting was of a subject I was not to meet for another decade. How it is that women can bear so much on their back and remain such sensual creatures never ceases to amaze me.
There is no hanging bracket on the stone. It used to just lean against the wall waiting for me to recognize the model. It will ship well wrapped, as if it were glass and not slate.

Although I took art classes in high school and college, I did not really begin painting until I left military service in 1985. Since then I have discovered that I paint in sporadic periods based upon location, time, and life. By 1996 I shifted gears into photography because it was more easily controlled, and for me, less obsessive. For me, photography is easier to contained in blocks of time than painting where I often look up to find that it is 4 AM in the morning and almost time to begin a commute. Most of my paintings are abstract, and, not surprisingly most of my photographs are not abstract. In many ways, my paintings are more personal and intimate.
